===Editor Problems and Solutions===
===Initial Editor Startup Error:===

I started up the editor, and set my preferences. I then tried to open a map. The map loads, or at least appears to load correctly, and when it is done I cannot do anything in the editor. The editor console will just SPAM the following errors any time I attempt something:
guid set to jXsylUrw5rg
ERROR: wglMakeCurrent failed.. Error:1282
Please restart Q3Radiant if the Map view is not working
ERROR: wglMakeCurrent failed..
Please restart QuakeEdit if the camera view is not working
ERROR: wglMakeCurrent failed..
Please restart QuakeEdit if the Z view is not working
This will almost always happen to you when you start the editor for the first time in Windows Vista 32-bit. This may or may not happen for Vista 64-bit, but if it does the cure is most likely the same. Here are the steps that you should take to efficiently load the editor and overcome this error spew.
1. Create a new Quake4.exe shortcut, right click the icon, and select properties.
2. Choose the "Shortcut" tab at the top of the properties window (View Shot 1, and click the image for full view), and add the following text to the Target field in place of the default:
"C:Program Filesid SoftwareQuake 4Quake4.exe" r_multiSamples 0 r_brightness 1 r_gamma 1 r_fullscreen 0 vid_restart wait editor
Note: Add a plus symbol before each word after "C:Program Filesid SoftwareQuake 4Quake4.exe" as the html reader on my site deletes the symbols on me. You will see where the plus signs should go by looking at the large version of shot 1.
3. Choose the "Compatibility" tab at the top of the properties window (View Shot 2, and click the image for full view), and check the following boxes:
A. Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 2)
B. Disable visual themes.
C. Disable desktop composition.
D. Disable display scaling on high DPI settings.
E. Run this program as an administrator.
4. Save all of these shortcut settings by hitting "Apply" at the bottom of the properties window. The steps I have just had you complete will allow the shortcut to run without interference from any vista graphic-intensive desktop features. The text I had you add to the target field in step 2 will allow the editor to run optimally from the shortcut by setting the brightness and gamma, which end up way to bright if left to the radiant default. You will also be able to run multiple versions of the game/editor, and skip having to run the game, bring down the console, and type editor every time.
5. This step will cure wglMakeCurrent failed.. Error:1282. Close the game/editor and navigate to "C:Program Filesid SoftwareQuake 4q4base" and delete the editor.cfg and the Quake4Config.cfg. The next time you start the game/editor it will remake your configuration files and you will no longer receive that annoying error. Now you should be able to edit to your heart's content, even using Windows Vista.
6. You might also want to disable your google sidebar, since it tends to get in the way of the editor if you want all of your monitor real estate for mapping.
