Tutorial Profile: Making a Quake4editor Batchfile for Vista 32-bit

Tutorial Profile: Making a Quake4editor Batchfile for Vista 32-bit

1. Go to C:Program Filesid SoftwareQuake 4, or wherever you installed Quake4 if you installed it to some other place, and create a new Quake4.exe shortcut. Send the shortcut to your desktop for easy access.
2. Right click on the shortcut and rename it to something like "Quake4Editor."
3. Right click again on the shortcut and choose properties.
4. Click on the "Shortcut" tab and add the following to the Target path: "C:Program Filesid SoftwareQuake 4Quake4.exe" r_multiSamples 0 r_brightness 1 r_gamma 1 r_fullscreen 0 vid_restart wait editor
Note1: Add a plus symbol before each word after "C:Program Filesid SoftwareQuake 4Quake4.exe" as the html reader on my site deletes the plus symbols on me. (You can see the target line for my batch file by clicking shot1 to the right. You can click the resultant thumbnail to see the full sized image.)
The strings that you have added will correct the nasty overbright look that the editor tries to default to when started from the game, sets fullscreen off since the editor cannot run in fullscreen, disables multi-core sampling since the editor can error out on multi-core PC's, and does a vid_restart for you once the other settings are enabled.
Note2: Make sure that you correct the path to your Quake4.exe if you installed the game manually to a different spot than the default.
5. Click the "Compatibility" tab and check the following boxes (You can click shot2 in order to see a screenshot of the compatibility tab. Click on the thumbnail to see the fullsize image):
A. Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 2).
B. Disable visual themes.
C. Disable desktop composition.
D. Disable display scaling on high DPI settings.
E. Run this program as an administrator.
6. Hit Apply and OK to save your settings changes and close the window.
7. Double-click your new editor shortcut and go to town :)
8. If the editor starts acting really oddly or gives you an ERROR: wglMakeCurrent failed.. Error:1282 Please restart Q3Radiant if the Map view is not working then refer to the Vista Editing Reference tutorial in order to find the fix. Happy mapping!
